Biotic Factors
Biotic factors of the Alpine Biome, includes all the living organisms in an ecosystem. Definition of Community - a group of different species interacting in a common location. Adaptions - All the biotic factors have adapted to survive in this particular biome, they all have a special characteristic that allows . They are physiological, structural, behavioural and reproductive strategies. Insects - these insects have made multiple adaptions each. An example is structural, as in changing their colour to fit their environment. Some insects that can be seen in the Austrian Alps are Snow fleas, Blue moths, Rosalia longicorn, Alpine salamander and Alpine Apollo butterfly. Plants - not much vegetation grows in the central eastern alps, this is as a result of the encredibly short summer season and long winter season. Examples of plants native to this area are the edelweiss (Austria's national flower), the gentian, the Alpine carnation, the arnica's and the Alpine rose. Herbivores - The following organisms live off vegetation only, the Alpine ibex, the Alpine/mountain hare, the Red dear, the Nuthatch and the Marmot. Carnivores - these organisms are at the top of the food chain, the predators which consume only other organisms. These are the European Red Fox, the Black Eagles, the Eurasian lynx, the Bearded Vultures and the Vole |
